Investors in small businesses £ 100 tax break given

The government has given the green light to strengthen the enterprise investment scheme (EIS with another 100 million pounds of tax benefits.

Officials in Brussels have approved plans to increase the Treasury rate tax relief on income available in the EIS 20 to 30%, while doubling the annual limit of £ 1m investment.

The government hopes the changes will come into operation next April, even more ballast is added to the EIS, which channels funding thousands of businesses each year.

According to Treasury figures, the total investment for a 500 plan generated £ 1,800 for projects in the fiscal year ending March 2009 – a period when the vast majority of companies in the UK had difficulties in attracting funds due to recession.

George Osborne said the expansion EIS "would give a bigger tax break for those who take risks to growth and employment in Britain by investing in small companies that have the potential to be fast growing. "

Osborne feelings echoed Bob Taylor, founder of networking company Envestors angel, who told Startups:

"The EIS system has always been attractive to investors in the know, but unfortunately very few have been aware of the great benefits and protections it can offer. The changes are expected to attract more investment from existing investors in the scheme, but also attract new investors and aware of the benefits of the EIS.

"Under the new scheme, higher rate taxpayers (ie those who pay the 50% are only risking 35% of what they invest in a business, so it's a great incentive for investors . We hope that this, together with increasing amounts annually that can be subjected to EIA, should increase investor appetite for hotel deals EIS. "

. However, the Forum of Private Business (FPB responded by saying that the most exclusive statements to Startups, President Phil Orford, said:

"An expansion plan EIS is certainly welcome, but as part of the campaign's Forum 'Get trade in Britain, our submission to the Budget of 2011 also called for tax incentives for private lenders at par with investors benefit.

"Private lenders are themselves entrepreneurs who take real risks when you step in the violation of fund companies, often treading where traditional banks are not willing to venture. These lenders must be valued and cared for, are not taxed at a rate significantly higher, which is the situation we have today. "
