Afresh Consult, the only dealer in the country licensed to sell the recently launched Sage ERP X3, has set a target market of 40 to 60 companies for the third generation ERP, Immo Bohm, the managing director of the company has said.

In an interview with the Economist, Bohm said there is one company that is already live on the product, but was confident that the target market will soon grow.

«There is one well known company live on the product already, and we are in the final closing stages with three other well-known companies. I believe the target market in Namibia for X3 to be around 40 to 60 companies. Many other local companies will run X3 because they are subsidiaries of companies in RSA who run X3 there,» he said.

Bohm said the advantages of using the X3 product was that it is very powerful, flexible, effective and user friendly at an affordable cost.

«It offers much more functionality than competing systems in its class. It is already web native, has embedded business intelligence and has visual processes, something most competing systems fail to have to this day. The system can be configured and new modules can be built without a programmer, making it very flexible and adaptable. This is quite unique. It also runs well on our local infrastructure, either directly via the internet – so you can work from anywhere, or even offline should you not have a reliable internet connection.»

He added that the Sage ERP X3 was ideally suited for companies with more than 40 users.

«Companies with more than 40 users typically have a complexity that fits well with what X3 has to offer. Some smaller companies might also be complex and then it makes sense for them as well. But our typical customer is what we call a large company in Namibia, with hundreds or thousands of staff. X3 is also very suited for companies that have expanded beyond our borders and which have a complex organisational structure,» Bohm said.

Previously known as Adonix, the Sage ERP X3 was originally developed in 1998 well before Sage bought the company two years ago. After the acquisition the company then started marketing the product as Sage ERP X3 worldwide.

Asked why it took this long before the X3 was launched in the country, Bohm said Sage was looking for the right partner to launch the product in Namibia, «and it was only early this year that they started talking to us to take their product to market.»

Afresh Consult is a Namibian company now headquartered in Gauteng with many customers throughout Africa.

«It is this mix of local versus Africa-wide experience that makes us a good business partner for companies that want to be competitive locally, but who face increasing competition from within Africa, especially South Africa. When you buy an ERP system, you invest not only in the software, but in a company that helps you grow your business, and who supports you steadily after the implementation. You need a business partner that understands business on the continent, not just locally,» the Afresh Consult MD said.
