Challenge intelligent network security highlighted in the report

Smart grid project must focus on data security

Government plans to create a smart grid for energy networks will require a coordinated focus on cybersecurity as communication networks play a key role, according to a report from The Energy Networks Association (ENA.

The ENA published the report of the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC, which is responsible for the network of intelligent energy. The results of the investigation, carried out by KEMA Consulting, found that government contractors and network need a more "coherent and coordinated approach" to ensure the intelligent network.

The report notes that the smart grid networks affect cyber security and describes how it should be an important consideration in the development of intelligent network architecture, technology and management systems.

For example, the report says: «ICT security, along with computing system reliability, safety and maintainability, are critical attributes for smart grid implementation and operation, and need to be considered as part of overall risk management for this critical national infrastructure. "

Last week, the IT sector, under the wing of the intellect is involved in the discussion of intelligent networks with the launch of cross-industry organization SmartGrid GB . This group brings together IT companies, environmental organizations, governments, regulators and consumer groups. Multiple actors to coordinate and advise the government.

Robert McNamara, director of energy and environment in the intellect, is the manager SmartGrid GB. He welcomed the report: "A large amount of data carried on the smart grid and through smart metering is absolutely imperative that safety is priority number one.".

The DECC has already com/Articles/2011/05/12/246643/Government-gets-the-smart-metering-ball-rolling.htm "> a notice to inform vendors to be prepared for a job. A new company was created to manage data from smart meters that send and receive. The database and business communications (DCC, as it is known, requires the services of IT and communications service providers.

The intelligent network project involves the use of smart meters in the home to help consumers manage their energy consumption. htm "> However, a survey that was commissioned by the supplier of intelligent technology Underground T-Systems and conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit, reveals the antipathy towards the government's plans to deploy smart meters to 30 million households in 2020 . Consumers are more concerned about the financial cost of using smart meters that the environmental costs of inefficient use of energy.
