Mercedes-Benz S350 BlueTEC is Part of Green Initiatives at 2011 US Open

In 2008, the U.S. Open launched its comprehensive environmental program and has continued to expand its mission to green initiatives every year since. This year will include major recycling programs, energy management, composting and the use of paper products made of at least 30% post-consumer waste.

This year, the official vehicle of the U.S. Open, Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA is bringing the new clean diesel sedan S350BlueTEC courts in Flushing, New Jersey. BlueTEC The S350 is one of the fleet of vehicles used MBUSA to transport officials, and athletes while at the same time support for the United States Tennis Associations dedication to green initiatives.

The new Blue Tec S350 4MATIC 2012 AWD is the first diesel S-Class in the U.S. market since 1995. Powered by an integrated 3.0-liter diesel V6 with 240 horsepower, with a remarkable 455 pounds -ft of torque and an estimated 20-mpg city and 21 mpg on the highway.

Helping reduce the overall carbon footprint of the US. Open, the Mercedes-Benz S400 HYBRID sedan joins the new S350 Blue TEC to transport participants.  In addition, over 60% of the fleet used for VIP and player transportation is made of up Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Vans.  The S400 HYBRID features the world's first lithium-ion battery designed specifically for automotive use.  Working with a 20-horsepower electric motor and a 275-hp V6 gasoline engine, the high capacity, lightweight lithium-ion battery provides hybrid power and impressive fuel economy at an estimated 30 mpg on the highway.
