Three amateur sportsmen from CA Immobilien Anlagen AG will set out from Vienna on bicycles, heading for Expo Real in Munich. Their aim is to cover the distance of some 450 kilometres in four stages. By opting for bicycles rather than other means of transport, the three real estate specialists plan to set an example of environmental awareness and sustainability in action.
On 30th September 2011, three CA Immo employees – Gregor Drexler, Robert Wolf and Christoph Buchgraber – will set out by racing bike to tackle the distance between Vienna and Munich. Their plan is to leave CA Immo’s Vienna headquarters at Mechelgasse 1 at 10 a.m. Three days and 448 kilometres later, the trio of co-workers will reach their destination of Munich – in time for the Expo Real trade fair for the real estate sector, which takes place from 4th to 6th October.
The three athletes are in a highly optimistic and motivated mood as they prepare for their ride. For them, cycling offers a superb change of scene from everyday office duties. However, a love of sport is not the only thing motivating the colleagues to embark on such a project. "Environmental awareness and action, for example in cutting carbon emissions, is a central theme in the real estate sector in particular – and it’s an issue that’s becoming more and more important. By rejecting the car and the plane, we hope our initiative will make a positive contribution to a better environment", say the property experts.
The first stage runs along the danube to Spitz, where the cyclists will spend the night after covering the first 90 kilometres. On day two, the three will cycle another 128 kilometres, before reaching Wels. The objective of the third, 116-kilometre stage will be the pilgrimage site of Altötting in Upper Bavaria; and around midday on day four, the cyclists should reach their destination of Munich.
The three CA Immo employees were inspired to launch their project by expobike, a professionally organised event in Germany that brings together business and sport. Dozens of amateur cyclists working in the German real estate sector are taking part in the event, and will also start heading for Expo Real in Munich from 27th September 2011 onwards. The cyclists will set out from Cologne and follow a six-stage route passing through Frankfurt am Main and Heidelberg, amongst other places. The German participants can opt to cycle part of the route only; cyclists in the various cities along the route are already training hard on organised cycling excursions.
