NFC "smart" car key connects to portable devices

Near Field Communication (NFC was initially promoted as a method of mobile payments, but the technology has been applied to a wider range of applications -. And the list goes on One is a new system that allows NFC implementation of a car key, which was launched by the Dutch company NXP Semiconductors. The system is a production ready single-chip solution called KeyLink Lite (codenamed NCF2970 which allows a key connection between "smart" cars and NFC-compatible external devices such as mobile phones, tablets and notebooks.

NFC is a short range (up to 20 cm / 8 inch standard radio communication between electronic devices, so far mainly used in smart phones (like Nokia and Google Nexus C7 S. The combination of existing technologies, NXP key car security, encryption technology, and an NFC system operates to 13. 56MHz frequency KeyLink Lite will allow users to access sensitive data by simply waving the key car near an NFC device.

Some of the features KeyLink Lite include:

Car Finder

The key will record the GPS coordinates (presumably the connection to the navigation system in the car on the location of current car parking, allowing users to locate your vehicle using a mobile phone and online maps.

Route Planner

This proposed role will allow drivers to plan their route home, the transfer of key data, and then upload them from the key to the car navigation system.

Car status and data management services

No need to remember the fuel level or keep the service history of vehicles in the paper any more. All this information can be stored in the key, and transferred to a laptop or smart phone when needed.

Car Auto Diagnosis

The diagnostic data can be transferred from the car to a PC via the key, and then uploaded to a Web site diagnostic analysis.

The car customization

Carmakers may offer some additional features, exclusive vehicles and offer their customers the ability to unlock using the key.

NXP has developed a multi-functional Smart Key Prototype with BMW in the past, which is supposed to function as a method for mobile payments. The Dutch company, however, does not mention this kind of application for the current device.

KeyLink Lite technology is available for production. No word yet on what really automaker can use, or when.
