Evan C. Gregory, 41, was reportedly trying to sell the car at a gas station at the intersection of Casa Grande Road and Lakeville Highway at 11 p.m. when his behavior prompted a call to police.
Responding officers found the suspect had left the scene but Gregory soon returned, with the key to the Mercedes in his possession, according to police.
The car was found parked on the 5900 block of Lakeville Highway.
Gregory was also found in possession of mail stolen from the same area. He was arrested and charged with vehicle theft and possession of stolen property.
