Guided by the elegant style of cars has introduced a new lightweight electric concept vehicle that will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this month.
The Smart Forvision, developed in collaboration with the BASF chemical company, is designed to show the materials that could be used to make electric cars more efficient in the future.
One of the most striking features is a roof made up of transparent solar cells, allowing the car to generate enough energy from sunlight to power the multimedia components and climate control fans inside the vehicle.
Exceptionally, the transparent roof is also used light-emitting diodes below the cells, meaning that appears as a glass roof during the day, but lights gently illuminate the inside during the night.
Instead of heating the traditional vehicles, Smart has chosen to fill the posts of 'e-textiles' – fabrics that heat – to ensure that directly heat the passenger in the most effective points of contact, such as middle and lower back .
In the summer sun, however, the car must remain calm, as it is covered in an infrared paint and window film developed by BASF to keep the heat to get inside.
While this model is still largely a concept, is a saying only one, as many of the innovations based on nanotechnology, intelligent – and plenty of others such as Ford and BMW – described as a key to development sustainable solutions for the future.
"Cars of the materials they need and future technologies that reduce energy consumption while increasing the range and level of comfort," said Dr. Christian Fischer BASF.
"Our innovations make a decisive contribution to this. Together, we are introducing an innovative vehicle that has no parallel. "
Visitors can make that decision for themselves at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which runs September 15 to 25 in Frankfurt, Germany.
