Beauty trends are born on the catwalk. From coral lipstick, khaki eye shadow and slicked back hair – all of this season's new directions started off as a notebook sketching by a hair director or a makeup maestro long before they made their way to your local cosmetics counter.
Witnessing the hair and makeup trends at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival in Sydney last week was fundamental to understanding the key looks we can look forward to as we shift seasons.
At the helm of translating new hair trends at the Festival's catwalk 'review' shows was Richard Kavanagh, mover and shaker for global hair care company Redken. I spoke to Kavanagh backstage, just moments before the models that he and a trusty team of 30 hairstylists had prepped to perfection strode down the runway at Sydney's majestic Town Hall.

Discussing the key trends in hair for 2011/12, Kavanagh had a few things to say about the tresses and curls that were being tossed on the runway.
"There were several key trends in hair," he said.
"The first I created here is a nod to the 1960s. Not retro, but just a subtle nod to that decade. It's not a movie star look, more the hair of a woman from that era relaxing at home."
This nostalgic look was translated to the runway by combing back the hair into a tight bun, making it look sleek and sexy. Heck, it made me want to leave the show right there and then to fashion my long wavy locks into a slick 'do.
"The second look," he continued, "is an androgynous one. The key here is to make the girls look sophisticated. "
And that he did. Several models had super-cropped hairdos yet still looked utterly feminine. Did I want to book a hair appointment to get the chop? Hell, yeah. Luckily, it was Saturday night and the salons were closed.

Kavanagh's hair styling tool of choice here was Redken's Rootful, a volumising spray "used to control the hair parting and at the same time give it strength and hold."

He's also a big fan of Redken Fashion Works. "It's a hairspray, but it also polishes hair and gets it in to shape. I think it has filled the void in the hair care market – it offers just the right amount of hold. "

Another of Kavanagh's favourites is the slicked back do. He explained, "I place the hair into a ponytail, put it in a hairnet, then use Redken Forceful all over. It locks out humidity and smooths flyaways."

And with 208 "hits" (that's Fash-talk of changes of clothes, hair certainly held admirable.
The other obvious star of the show was flawless makeup, impressive. au "> Cosmetics was a member of Festival beautiful makeup for all performances.
The fashion show every night called "A review of the Fashion Week in Australia", was featured over 40 designers – and it was awesome! A sample of the latest trends of fashion Australia as Alex Perry and Rachel Gilbert with my own favorite Gail Sorronda , Joe Little Women , com / "> Magdalena V, Marnie Skillings , Manning Cartell and Carl Kapp , a review of a time that also shows some beautiful makeup cosmetics is down across the board in the coming months.
Creative Director of beautiful cosmetics, Tiarna Leeson, led the team of 15 troops backstage makeup artists responsible for the implementation of high fashion, looks for 16 shows. Every aspect has been specifically created to complement the designer clothing and individual sense of each show. The evening performance review was even more difficult because it requires an appropriate makeup for more than 40 designers and over 250 articles.
Consequently, the plan Leeson kept things simple and took us "back to basics' complexion fresh, moist and a touch of color on the cheeks, eyes or lips.
"The makeup trends for spring / summer is, without a doubt that all women can feel safe and comfortable to wear," said Leeson.
A quick how-to lovely cosmetics team on how to achieve that look cool summer: • Apply cosmetics Beautiful first baseman First full-face followed by a smooth layer of liquid foundation perfect base. • Endless Summer Bronzer Use give a sun-kissed look. • Then apply the new cheek cream cream blush to apples of the cheeks. • Coat lashes with lots of black mascara Glamalash. • Apply black eyeliner to highlight and open below the water line inside the eye.
• Finish with a burst of colour on the lips. Want to know a secret trick to get the perfect colour and texture? Line the lips with a red lip pencil like Moulin, then dab an eye shadow (they recommend Colour Pro Eye Shadow in orange over the lips for a bold burst of colour that lasts. Other hot colours for summer include lip shades in fuchsia, bright orange or red.
The most talked about feature of Gorgeous' looks was the radiant, glossy cheeks that gave the models a fresh, summery sheen. Leeson explained, "We applied our clear Lip Lacquer, H2O, to the cheeks. This gave a whole new meaning to the term 'dewy complexion'!
"Models and designers were asking us "What have you used on her skin? It looks so… glowy! Can you make my skin look that good? I call these sorts of things 'reverse makeup'- we used lip gloss on the cheeks and the eyes, and eye shadow on the lips!"
Let the experimentation begin!
