Smart to launch LTE in more cities

Smart Communications has announced the launch of its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE technology over key locations in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

According to PLDT and Smart technology leading group of Rolando G. Peña, Smart LTE now covers most of metropolitan Manila and Cebu City and is currently being tested and the city of Davao.

"We are upgrading our network right now, and soon, our subscribers will enjoy the fast speeds that LTE promises," said Peña.

Presented last April in Boracay, Smart LTE held its first public demonstration in Buenos Aires in June. Based on speed tests, LTE is capable of download speeds of up to 50 to 70 megabits per second.

To date, Smart HSPA + is present in large urban centers as the city of Iloilo, Zamboanga City in the Visayas and Mindanao. The company said it is ready to bring HSPA + devices in the month.

Smart, together with its parent company Philippine Long Distance Co. (PLDT has allocated P67 million to upgrade its network.
