Boeing denied widely published reports, based in part on comments from the CFO of an airline's key customers, the end of 2013 787-9 EIS has slipped. A Boeing spokesman said Tuesday that the ATW manufacturer has "reaffirmed its guidance 787-9 the first delivery is scheduled for late 2013."
Air New Zealand CFO Rob McDonald said last week at a conference on prospects of aviation Sydney delivery 787-9, to which Australia and New Zealand is the launch customer, has been pushed into 2014. "It would be an understatement to say they are frustrated and disappointed [by the delays 787]," he said, describing the delay as "painful."
"We are in talks with Boeing about deadlines and financial implications of that," said McDonald. He said Boeing could not give the airline a final delivery date. He stressed that the 787 will be a great plane to Australia and New Zealand once they arrive. The company will initially use the 787-9 on routes to China and Japan.
In his most recent evaluation, New York-based Bernstein Research projects that Boeing will deliver eight 787 this year (the manufacturer has focused on delivery 12-20 this year, 61 in 2012, 78 in 2013 and 107 in 2014. Boeing continues to work on plans for a further increase in line Dreamliner in Everett, in combination with the existing line and the Charleston (SC line, it could raise production from 787 to 17 a month for 2016.
The first delivery of the 787-8 ANA is expected in September (ATW Daily News, July 25.
