The U.S. Department of Interior's Office of Land Management (BLM has released its draft environmental impact statement (EIS for the Cherry and Sierra Madre wind energy project, a wind farm from 2 to 3 GW GW proposed by (PCW.
The notice of availability of the EIS was published in the Federal Register and initiates a comment period of 90 days.
The nearly 1,100 pages, the draft EIS document results over three years of analysis, opinion and collaboration among federal, state and local agencies. The report informs the public of the various factors associated with wind power plant, including their ecological, aesthetic, cultural, economic and social. BLM is preparing this EIS under the National Environmental Policy Act, as approximately half of the PCW wind projects located on federal land.
"The EIS is an important milestone as we work to make Wyoming high capacity, large volume of wind resources on a product that people need – cost-effective renewable energy," says Bill Miller, president and CEO of PCW.
The project is expected to include up to 1,000 turbines located in a 320,000-acre cattle ranch in Carbon County, Wyoming outstanding resources of the wind farm, along with the locations of turbines efficient, allow to produce approximately 2.5 PCW GW of renewable energy but the energy of a permanent use of less than 2,000 acres, according to PCW.
BLM officials will host two open house meetings next month to provide opportunities for public to review the EIA project, ask questions and make comments in writing for consideration as the agency prepares the final EIS. The meetings will take place on 22 August in the Jeffrey Memorial Community Center in Rawlins 16:00 to 19:00 and on 23 August in the Platte Valley Community Center, Saratoga 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
