Glenwood Springs – The Forest Service announced this morning that the Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS for the proposed project Breckenridge Peak 6 has been released for public review and comment.
"It has taken two years to thoroughly analyze and create management solutions that address the needs of this project and create a user experience you want in Breckenridge Ski Resort," said Forest Supervisor Scott Fitzwilliams. "Although there are still some public concern about the impacts of the community and the environment, I think we are closer to achieving our collective goals with the launch of this project. "
The EIS includes three management alternatives in detail: A no-action alternative, which shows the baseline conditions and after two courses of action designed to meet the project purpose and need.
The proposed action or Alternative 2 has been identified as the preferred alternative the Forest Service. This alternative would develop approximately 550 acres of lift and the increase was skiing on Peak 6 within the current ceiling on Special Use Permit to the Breckenridge ski resort. The land is accessed by a proposed six-person lift and shift the current Imperial Express lift to the north. In addition, two facilities would be built to accommodate guests, a ski patrol terminal / heating and a guest cottage of 150 seats installed in the elevator services in the mid-season.
The DEIS can all be reviewed and downloaded from the project website Peak 6: www.breckenridgepeak6.com (or later. This website was created to provide the public with information about the project, including background details, critical steps in the process of planning and project status updates. One way to custom comment is included in the website. This form allows the public to submit comments on the DEIS electronically. The website offers the public a friendly and efficient process to comment, while helping the Forest Service better tools to classify, analyze and respond to substantive comments.
The document is also available online at www.fs.usda. gov / Whiteriver. Click on Management of Land Resources and go to the Projects page. Breckenridge Peak 6 DEIS is available for public review 45 days and comments period that begins with the publication of the notice of availability in the Federal Register.
