Editor's note: We will publish profiles of council and school board candidates in the months leading up to the Nov. 8 municipal elections.PLAINVILLE — Lisa Buckley says she has many reasons for running for the Board of Education this year."I've been president of the Linden Street School PTO, I have three kids in school, I grew up here and have family and friends in town," she said. "So I have a vested interest in it. "Buckley, who is 39 years old, is one of three Republican board candidates entering the field with no political experience. She believes that bringing in new people will improve the board.
"I think change is good," she said. "New people can change up the routine. We need to get back to basics and go from there."As a parent, Buckley said she hasn't seen any significant problems with town schools. "The Board of Education is trying to make everyone happy," she said. "They are trying to do what they feel is right and trying to make everyone else see it their way. It's a tough spot. " Buckley said the board needs to spend its money wisely. The board's budget did not increase from last year's spending plan."The schools need to have a tighter grip on how much people are paid," she said. "I don't know the details yet. It will be a learning experience."When it comes to the ongoing conflict between the board and the Town Council over how the board spends its money, Buckley said the board should be more open."The town deserves to know what's going on," she said. "As a taxpayer I feel the town has a right to know where its money is being spent. "She also wants to see the board and the council improve their relationship."That's the biggest issue," she said. "To work together we have to be on the same page.
