The last two weeks I started to list a few features you might need for your shopping cart. This week I am going to list more. Obviously if you are not going to pursue an ecommerce strategy soon, then it’s safe to skip this altogether. No harm done.
However, if you are contemplating installing a webshop, skim these features so that you are at least aware of what might be necessary in your shopping cart for it to be successful. (Adapted from www.magentocommerce.com

One of the most important are for your shop is Customer Service. For Customer Accounts you need: Order status and history, Re-orders from account, Recently ordered items, Address Book with unlimited addresses, Default Billing and Shipping addresses, Wishlist with ability to add comments, Email or Send RSS feed of Wishlist
You also need: Newsletter Subscription management, Product Reviews submitted, Product Tags submitted, Downloadable/Digital Products, Account Dashboard for overview of: recent orders, personal information, newsletter subscription status, primary billing address, primary shipping address, shopping cart, wishlist, recently ordered items, recent reviews and recent tags
In order to manage your Catalogue best, you want: Inventory Management with Back-ordered items, Minimum and Maximum quantities, Batch Import and Export of catalogue, Batch Updates to products in admin panel, Google Base Integration, Simple, Configurable (e. g. size, colour, etc., Bundled and Grouped Products, Virtual Products, Downloadable/Digital Products, Customer Personalised Products – upload text for embroidery, monogramming, etc., Tax Rates per location, customer group and product type, Attribute Sets for quick product creation of different item types, Create Store-specific attributes on the fly, Media Manager with automatic image resizing and watermarking.
…and there is much more, but I believe three lists of features should give you the idea.
