OXFORD – There has been a 180 degree change in the atmosphere of the University of Miami football practice. Last year, in-your-face style of Michael Haywood has been replaced by the calm demeanor of the first-year coach Don Treadwell.

"We're not scared of getting yelled at all times," junior quarterback Zac Dysert said with a smile.

RedHawks hope to be the only change in a remarkable season ended with a twist Conference championship and the Mid-American Bowl victory.

"Coach Haywood was a reason we Pumped Up for a fight," said Dysert, who remembers well the 2008 and '09 seasons, which brought a total of three wins. "I think we motivate now. We know what to do now as a team to repeat.

"The team has the same approach as we did last year," he said. "I think we're on the right track."

Crime

Most teams are happy to have an exceptional quarterback. The RedHawks have two.

What we have is a new result in operation.

Dysert made the second team All-MAC in its second year and has an arm of professional quality. Austin Boucher showed the presence rare in its first year of redshirt in 2010. When called to replace injured Dysert who led Miami to four straight wins and was named MVP of the Bowl GoDaddy.Com.

Miami also has a storage mode talented receivers and this year is no exception.

Nick Harwell burned the Bobcats of Ohio, a school record-219 yards, Chris Givens is a proven clutch receiver whose miraculous 31 yards at Northern Illinois was the winning score, and a pair of freshmen true year of High School Immo in Colombia, SC – David Frazier and Dawan Scott – have the opportunity to be impact players.

The problem is Miami running game. Former linebacker Erik Finklea had some decent runs a summer camp, but like five other caravans in the mixture has virtually no real game experience in making transfers.

"This is an area of concern," said Treadwell, "find someone who could advance as a runner."

"There is an opportunity for a lot of guys to prove themselves with our running game," said offensive coordinator John Klacik. "But it starts from the beginning with our line."

That line has shown the strength, led all MAC, actor Brandon Brooks twice, over two years to start Brad Bednar and Matt Kennedy.

Defense

Some of the best defensive talents in the MAC wear red and black of Miami junior defensive tackle Austin Brown, senior linebacker Ryan Kennedy (when he's healthy, senior outside linebacker Jerrell Wedge, second and junior cornerback Dayonne security Nunley Pat Hinkel .

This is definitely a strong team.

"We have a defense returning nine members … We are a young team, but we are a young and experienced," said Treadwell. "To know what it's like going on the day of the party is a great advantage.
