JPARC consists of all land, air and sea training areas used by the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps in Alaska. The military uses the JPARC to conduct testing, training and to support joint exercises and mission rehearsals.
The Army and Air Force, through Alaskan Command, are proposing to modernize and enhance the JPARC to enable realistic joint training.
Pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act, the Army and Air Force have prepared a draft environmental impact statement for the modernization and enhancement of ranges, airspace and training areas in the Joint Pacific Alaska Range Complex in Alaska.
The EIS analyzes potential environmental consequences associated with the JPARC enhancements. Descriptions of the EIS-proposed actions and alternatives analyzed in the draft EIS are shown below.
Three public hearings are scheduled on the draft EIS in May in the Mat-Su Borough. All three public hearings are from 5 to 9 p.m., with a presentation beginning at 5:45 p.m.
• May 14 — Palmer Community Center (Palmer Depot, 610 S. Valley Way.
• May 22 — Swiss Alaska Inn, 22056 South F St., Talkeetna.
• May 23 — Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center, 1001 S. Mack Dr., Wasilla.
People also may submit written comments to ALCOM Public Affairs, 9480 Pease Ave., Suite 120, JBER, AK 99506. To be considered for the final EIS, all comments must be received by June 7.
