7:08 GMT, August 26, 2011 WASHINGTON | The Air Force and other U.S. agencies Department of Defense are aggressively pursuing plug-in electric vehicles and vehicles and network infrastructure technologies, the Department of Defense leaders told the industry representatives in a Day of the Electric Vehicle Industry here August 23.
"We are here to tell you three things," said Terry A. Yonkers, Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for installations, environment and logistics. "We are serious about this, we will be the catalyst for the executive branch, and it's time to stop talking and get to do it. "
PEVS and vehicle technology allows the network to facilities generating energy from alternative sources to use the power to charge electric vehicles, and also use these same vehicles as storage devices. Vehicles to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and storing energy for use either at peak load (if connected to the network or autonomous power sources if commercial network fails.
The ENP and vehicle technology to the network is bidirectional. The network of two counts of vehicles and remove them when called when not in use.
Within weeks, the Air Force is expected to announce the selection of a base where these technologies will be installed and evaluated for wider application.
"Our first concern is to ensure that (the facility is suitable carriers for jobs to do," said Dr. Kevin Geiss, Assistant Secretary of the Air Force to power, the office of secretary of the Air Force for installations, environment and logistics.
"We have a global mission, and is often the work is done in facilities that allow us to fulfill this mission," Geiss said. "The fleet of vehicles (compatible with the Flyers make this work on the premises. They should have the right tools."
Geiss said that much of the basis of test analysis will focus on how PEVS and vehicle network technology tie in the overall deployment plans.
"An installation of a system, we have to look at the additional capabilities that these vehicles can go," he said.
Facilities could theoretically be self-sufficient and generate revenue through the power supply to the commercial network.
The Industry Day was an opportunity for DoD leaders outline of industry representatives ENP vehicle technologies to the network are carried out with such force, the basic cost parameters and desired results.
