Talks of proposed wind farm project near Kingman begins – Today’s News

A 45-day comment period on the draft environmental impact statement (EIS for a proposed wind farm project about 40 miles northwest of Kingman began Friday.

BP Wind Energy proposes to build up to 283 wind turbines on federal lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management and Bureau of Reclamation. The Mohave County Wind Farm proposal could provide up to 500 megawatts of electricity.BP's proposal is for 38,099 acres of BLM land and 8,960 acres of Reclamation land. The draft EIS also reviews two alternatives that would reduce the amount of public land by about 25 percent. The BLM has not identified a preferred alternative in the draft statement.The public's opportunity to provide input on the draft environmental impact statement ends June 11.The draft EIS is available at www.blm.gov/az/st/en/prog/energy/wind/mohave.html.
