S Immo announces winners of idea contest for Office building The Mark

S Immo AG, in partnership with the Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism in Bucharest, announced the winners of the idea contest for the planning and design of the urban public plaza inside of The Mark office project located in the centre of Bucharest. After the final judging round, 10 projects were selected and awarded by an international manned jury.

S Immo AG, in partnership with the Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism in Bucharest, organized a students competition for the planning and design of the urban public plaza inside of The Mark office project. Over 70 projects entered the competition, in response to the challenge to integrate the historical value of the urban context in an innovative design adapted to the actual life-style.

The Mark, the new office project to be developed in Bucharest by the Austrian investor S Immo AG, will be located at the junction of the new Uranus Boulevard with Calea Grivitei, very close to Victoriei Square. The project will comprise two office building a 15 storey tower and a 6 levels podium-building – of up to approximately 28.000 m gross external floor area above ground, plus approximately 12.500 m gross external underground. Starting from the developers objective to establish new standards in terms of design vision and the use of new-generation technology, the project is conceived by one of the famous international European architects, Chapman Taylor. It will offer a whole new perspective to the corporate environment for working and living. Upon its completion, The Mark will represent a visual reference point across the city, as well as in the Romanian office market.

The initiative of organizing an idea contest aims at harnessing young talents in the process of designing and planning the area that articulates the continuous fronts provided by PUZ (plan urban zonal on Buzesti street and Calea Grivitei, an area with very interesting historic, urban and architectural value. The main objective of the competition is finding the optimum architectural solution for the future public square, by also highlighting the historic value of the urban context.

The jury of the competition is composed of UAUIM representatives, the Chief Architect of Bucharest City Hall, one representative of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, as well as S Immo representatives. Judging was based on criteria related to optimum space planning, compositional structure, urban image control and the relationship between the newly created space and the surrounding environment.

The 10 awarded projects of the contest were awarded with a money amount, plus the invitation to attend a workshop organized in 2013, where they will have the opportunity to continue and detail the study, together with S Immo experts and architects.

Through The Mark, we plan to give a new definition to the urban landscape of the Buze?ti-Calea Griviei area. The Mark will represent a new iconic building of Bucharest, that will value the history of its surroundings, in a holistic approach and innovative design adapted to the actual urban living, states Friedrich Wachernig, member of S Immo AGs Management Board.

Ideally located, very close to the central business district of Bucharest, The Mark will represent a visual reference in the heart of the city. The project is also targeting a BREEAM Excellent sustainability rating. Colliers International and Jones Lang LaSalle are the projects co-exclusive leasing agents.
