FOLLOW all the key moments as Australia tries to go 2-0 up in its one-day series against Sri Lanka.

9.45 AEDT – SRI LANKA WINS!LAHIRU Thirimanne, take a bow.

The 23-year-old Sri Lankan batsman raised the bat with a match-winning century at the same time as cracking the winning runs at the Adelaide Oval.

The tourists belted Australia by eight wickets, a display that will bring serious heat on the controversial rotation policy employed by Cricket Australia selectors.

The Aussies entered without a fully-fit Mitchell Johnson, Michael Clarke, David Warner and Matthew Wade and were never in the hunt, with Sri Lanka securing victory with 59 balls to spare.

Finally, a breakthrough! Far too little, too late, but a memorable moment for debutant Ben Cutting, claiming his first-ever international scalp. And what a scalp.

The Queenslander removed the dangerous Dilshan for 51, with gun fielder Glenn Maxwell taking an easy catch at point.

Thirimanne has raced to 88 and deserves a ton, while Sri Lanka is just 27 runs from victory.

The Lankans promoted young keeper Kushal Perera up the order, with Maxwell and Cutting sending it down at the moment.

Cutting

9.10 AEDT – SL 1-129 (32 overs, Req RR 2.33

KANE Richardson’s horror debut is over. The quick is not allowed to bowl out his 10 overs after three warnings for stepping on the pitch. He finishes with a golden duck and 0-15.

Harsh? Most in Twitter land seem to think it is.

Meanwhile, another three overs have ticked by and Australia is no closer to that second wicket.

Dilshan’s reached his 50, while Thirimanne is on his way to a century at this rate. He’s unbeaten on 76 with 42 more runs needed for victory.

Richardson

8.55 AEDT – SL 1-113 (29 overs, Req RR 2.9 Another handful of overs and another handful of bowling changes. This one is cooked – it’s just a matter of when Sri Lanka finishes off the chase.

Glenn Maxwell is into the attack now, but this «B Grade» attack looks impotent against Sri Lanka’s top-order class.

The tourists are just 58 runs shy of victory, and Australian selector John Invararity has some tough questions that need answering tomorrow.

8.35 AEDT – SL 1-90 (24 overs, Req RR 3.11 Crack! A four to Dilshan and a half-centry-raising shot to Thirimanne and Sri Lanka is seemingly on its way to an easy victory.

The tourists need just three an over, and Australian captain George Bailey has tried everything in his power without luck.

Clint McKay’s sent down eight overs and hasn’t struck since his fourth ball, with Australia’s youthful attack now appearing impotent.

Maybe Glenn Maxwell can do the damage… with another handful of runouts. It looks Australia’s sole hope.

Lanka

8.20 AEDT – SL 1-66 (Req RR 3.5 Ohh, some unlucky misses for the Aussies. A dropped catch – where a diving Steve Smith couldn’t quite get his hands underneath it – and a lbw, which the Aussies reviewed but it still wasn’t out.

The lbw – off Doherty’s bowling – was for Dilshan, while Smith gave Thirimanne a life.

And, to rub salt in, Brad Haddin has finally succumbed to his leg injury and is off the field, leaving Phil Hughes behind the stumps.

Will Sri Lanka make the most of these chances?

Aussies

8.05 AEDT – SL 1-62 (17 overs, Req RR 3.3 Yep, this game is heading Sri Lanka’s way. How about those Aussie selectors?

The «B-Grade» side isn’t looking so crash-hot now.

At 11. 30am tomorrow Cricket Australia will announce the line-up for the next pair of outings. Surely names in the ilk of M Clarke, D Warner, M Wade, M Johnson will be back.

Sri Lanka is now just 109 runs from victory with nine wickets in the sheds.

7.50 AEDT – SL1-41 (13 overs, Req RR 3.51 George Bailey has turned to spin as he desperately strives to break this partnership.

It stands at 41 and it’s presented a crossroad for Australia – strike here or she could be all over well inside 50 overs.

The only way to defend 170 is with wickets, is Xavier Doherty the man?

Dilshan would be the big one – he’s up to 20 from 33 deliveries.

7.30 AEDT – SL 1-28 (9.2 overs, chasing 171

The Lankans are steadying. Dilshan looks increasingly comfortable, while Jayawardene, Angelo Mathews, Perera x2 and Jeevan Mendis are still to come.

Australia needs a breakthrough and it needs one sharply.

With only 170 runs to play with, these two at the crease are getting close to knocking off a fair chunk.

The past five overs have cost 23 runs, with Sri Lanka starting to up the temp. Can debutant Ben Cutting deliver?

Australia Sri Lanka Cricket

7.15 AEDT – SL 1-8 (5.0 overs A slow and shaky start for Sri Lanka, must like Australia in its dig.

No more wickets have been lost, but the tourists are tracking at just 1.7 runs per over.

Still, with a lengthy tail and short total, Lanka is in control at Adelaide Oval.

Sizzling start from debutant Kane Richardson – his first two international overs were maidens, following McKay’s fist-over wicket.

6.56 AEDT – SL 1-0 (Chasing 171

Wicket!

Wicket first over would you believe that!

Clint McKay strikes and the Aussies are off to the best possible start. Upul Tharanga has to go, he nicked it to Brad Haddin.

Tharanga completely missed the line on that one and Lahiru Thirimanne comes to the crease, elevated up the order,

Can the Aussies capitalise and snare another one? They’ve got their tails up.

HALFTIME REPORT

A HALF-century from comeback ‘keeper Brad Haddin was the lone highlight for Australia as Sri Lanka rolled the home side for 170 at Adelaide Oval today.

Sri Lanka showed some fight and proved this one-day series won’t be a formality, ripping through the Australian batting line-up in 46.5 overs.

Fresh off a 107-run thumping at the MCG on Friday, the under-manned visitors responded in the best way possible.

Haddin was the only batsman to shine against a disciplined bowling attack that got first use of the damp conditions after skipper Mahela Jawawardene sent the home team in.

Aaron Finch’s tough introduction to the international one-day arena continued, prodding a ball from Angelo Mathews to Jeevan Mendis at cover for four.

Fellow opener Phil Hughes didn’t last much longer, getting trapped LBW by Nuwan Kulasekara for three. The Test left-hander challenged the decision, but the replay confirmed it was plumb and he quickly departed.

Sri Lanka would’ve felt vindicated by its decision to bowl after restricting the Aussies to 2/21 at the end of the first powerplay, but things got even better.- Tom Biddington 6.18 AEDT – AUS 170 ALL-OUT

Wicket!Well, the ball after raising the bat, Haddin is gone. He holed out in the deep on 50, with the Aussies defending 170. See the wickets at our interactive scoreboard

After an expensive start, Malinga finished with 3-32. Nuwan Kulasekera kept it tight, finishing with 1-24 from nine overs, while Haddin was the sole batsman to raise the bat.

6.15 AEDT – AUS 9-166 (46 overs, RR 3.61 This is the Brad Haddin we love! The keeper has cranked it up about five notches and hitting Sri Lanka all over the park.

It started with a towering six, caught superbly by a bloke in the crowd, while he hit a four last over and has just raised the bat.

Can he guide Australia through the innings and to a competitive score?

6.00 AEDT – AUS 9-146 (41.5 overs, RR 3.51

Wicket!

What??! ! Clint McKay has been given out after a referral, but on zero evidence.

Hot spot showed nothing, McKay looked innocent and the umpire gave it not out. But, the third umpire overturned it after a long review, and McKay is on his way.

Talk about controversy, and Twitter is blowing up with anger at the decision.

Well, there you go. McKay is gone for four and Perera has his second wicket, a caught behind. Aussies with just one peg left now.

5.40 AEDT – AUS 8-140 (39.2 overs, RR 3.57 Wicket! Wicket! And Malinga is on a hat-trick!

The strike bowler removed debutants Ben Cutting and Kane Richardson to start his eighth over.

The Cutting wicket was a pearler of a catch by keeper Kushal Perera, the fourth-string keeper.

Then came in Richardson who was gone lbw

Can he do it?

No… Clint McKay blocks it. Well played.

5.25 AEDT – AUS 6-127 (36 overs, RR 3.51 Ben Cutting, welcome to international cricket! The bowling all-rounder, who came to the crease in his debut with Australia in all sorts, is playing the much vaunted Lasith Malinga and Mendis with ease.

He’s skipped to 23, but, importantly, has Australia primed to see out the 50 overs (or go within an inch.

The Aussies have taken the batting powerplay, with Brad Haddin up to 21.

159379553

5.00 AEDT – AUS 6-98 (30 overs, RR 3.26 Haddin and debutant Ben Cutting are getting their eyes on, and surely this is the duo to steer Australia to a competitive score.

Haddin looks all at sea against Malinga the Slinger, but has survived… for now.

Cutting cracked a marvellous boundary in the 29th over to double his score, but survival is key for the next five or so overs.

159379449

4.40 AEDT – AUS 6-82 (24 overs Wicket! Wicket! Ohh no, two wickets in three balls and Victorian duo David Hussey and Glenn Maxwell are on their way!

Is it all over? Hussey was caught well short in a suicidal run, with a direct hit from Dilshan getting his prized scalp, while Maxwell edged one off the bowling of Angelo Mathews.

Two new batsmen – Brad Haddin and debutant Ben Cutting – at the crease now.

Can Australia see out its allotted 50 overs?

4.20 AEDT – AUS 4-60 (19.1 overs Wicket! Well, if that’s the best Steve Smith has he might be on the way out of the Australian side quick-smart.

The young batsman scrambled to eight runs before edging one through to the keeper.

On your way, young fella. Perera gets the wicket and the Aussies are at long odds now.

Can Victorians Dave Hussey and Glenn Maxwell come to the rescue? Hussey is up to 19.

159378668

4.10 AEDT – AUS 3-51 (16. 4 overs

Wicket!

And Malinga strikes back! George Bailey is gone, and can count himself unlucky on two counts.

The captain cracked it to midwicket but was caught by Thirimanne with a sensational catch. He picked up the pace quickly and got a glove to it, but the umpire went upstairs to check for the no-ball.

Malinga appeared to ever so slightly over-step the line, but the wicket stood and Bailey was on his way.

Enter Steve Smith.

Sri Lanka

4.00 AEDT – AUS 2-49 (15.3 overs Crack! Whack! Bang!

Here come the Aussies! It started with a towering George Bailey six and the next over David Hussey carted two fours to finally ignite the innings.

Bailey’s maximum was swung hard over midwicket – and caught nicely by a spectator – while Hussey’s pair of boundaries came off superstar quick Lasith Malinga,

The run-rate is up to 3.19. Can these two kick on? Bailey is up to 24 with his side’s chances hugely dependent on this partnership.

159375648

3.45 AEDT – AUS 2-30 (13 overs

Well, the bleeding has slowed down. George Bailey and David Hussey have settled Australia’s wobbly start, but need to ramp up the run-rate quick smart.

Sri Lanka has now missed a handful of run out chances, ones Australia was taking with seemingly ease at the MCG on Friday night.

But the Lankans are still well in front, with the Aussies going at just 2.25 an over in damp conditions.

159375941

3.32pm AEDT – AUS 2-14 (8 overs

Wicket!

Phil Hughes is gone and Australia is out of reviews! Panic starting to set in for the home side.

Tweet us @SamLandsberger and we’ll publish it online

Hughes was dismissed lbw but decided to throw a challenge at the decision, with the backing of captain George Bailey.

But, Nuwan Kulasekara’s ball was a peach and set to thump into the stumps, forcing Hughes to depart for just three runs.

Suddenly both openers are in the sheds and the run-rate is a worrying 1.77.

159375384

3.20pm AEDT – AUS 1-11 (6 overs Aussies no they’re wearing colours today, right? They’re batting at less than two an over, but credit must go to Sri Lanka’s opening bowlers.

They’ve applied pressure, while the fielding has been on-song so far.

Can Hughes or Bailey break the shackles?

159372659

3.08pm AEDT – AUS 1-7 (3.3 overs

Wicket!

Finchy, nooo!! Aaron Finch has thrown his wicket away, removed for just four runs.

The big-hitting star, playing just his second ODI for Australia, played a loose shot off the bowling of Angelo Mathews and was caught by Jeevan Mendis.

Is that a wry smile creeping across the face of Melbourne Renegade fans?

Enter the captain, George Bailey.

159372659

3pm AEDT – AUS 0-4 (2.0 overs Slow but steady start for the home side. But there was a moment of panic in the first over – Phil Hughes called Aaron Finch through for a suicide run, but Dilshan missed the stumps.

A direct hit would have had Hughes, who made a century on debut on Friday, out by a mile.

Nuwan Kulasekara and Angelo Mathews have been handed the new ball.

2.30pm AEDT

Luck was with the tourists this morning – Sri Lanka won the toss and will send Australia to the crease to bat when play gets under way at Adelaide Oval.

Morning rain has delayed the start of play by about 30 minutes in the second ODI of the five-match series. The umpires will take another look at the field again shortly and if it’s all good, play can start.

Looks as if we still have a full game on our hands. The weather is expected to clear up as the day goes on so it should be smooth sailing.

If this is the first time you’ve checked in, South Aussie paceman Kane Richardson and Queensland quick Ben Cutting will make their debuts today.

Mitchell Johnson and the injured Mitchell Starc are out. And youngster Steve Smith is in for Usman Khawaja.

We’ll take you through all the big plays, with videos of dismissals, pictures as descriptions of all the happenings from the Adelaide Oval.

PREAMBLE:

Good afternoon and welcome to the second match of the one-day series between the Aussies and Sri Lanka.

News is in that young bowlers Kane Richardson and Ben Cutting will make their Australian debuts today, with the pair handed their caps shortly before the toss.

The Aussies swung a third change, with Steve Smith replacing Usman Khawaja. The two bowlers replaced Mitch Johnson and Mitchell Starc (calf.

There has been a bit of rain around in Adelaide, so fingers crossed we can get through a full match.

No-one would be keener to get out in the middle than Australian opener Phil Hughes.

The left-hander cracked a superb hundred on debut for the one-day line-up in Melbourne on Friday, earning man-of-the-match honours in his side’s thumping 107-run win.
