Bombardier Awarded Fleet Operations and Maintenance Extension with GO Transit in Toronto

BERLIN, GERMANY–(Marketwire – Dec 21, 2012 – Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation announced today that Ontario»s Metrolinx/GO Transit has exercised options for 10 years of fleet operations and maintenance services for its commuter rail system serving the city of Toronto and surrounding regions. The total value of these two contracts, which are extended to 2023, is approximately $927 million CDN ($937 million US, 707 million euro.

A division of Metrolinx, GO Transit is the regional public transit service for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area, carrying 62 million passengers a year. GO runs 187 train trips and 2,075 bus trips daily, transporting about 226,300 passengers on a typical weekday – 175,300 on the trains and 51,000 by bus. Since service began in the late 1960s, more than a billion riders have taken the GO Train or Bus – to work or school, to go home, or for leisure activities.

Bombardier has provided fleet maintenance services to GO Transit since 1997 and operations since 2008 and has also supplied more than 600 BOMBARDIER BiLevel rail coaches that make up the transit authority»s commuter rail fleet. BiLevel coaches are manufactured at production facilities in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The BiLevel car is the most popular multi-level commuter rail car in North America, with operations in 14 major cities across Canada and the United States.
