Press Release:

Smart offers LTE on unlimited to first subscribers

Wireless leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart is giving early adopters a special treat as it offers its new LTE service on unlimited until October 25, 2012.

Speaking during the Smart LTE launch event in Resorts World Manila, Smart Wireless Consumer Division Head Noel Lorenzana said that Smart LTE Plan 3500 subscribers are free to use their high speed Internet services to their hearts' content.

"Use the Smart LTE dongle and experience what it feels like to Live Faster and to Live More," said Lorenzana. "LTE is the cutting edge of Smart's mobile broadband service portfolio that includes HSPA+, HSPA, and 3G which we have significantly expanded."

Lorenzana adds that the Smart LTE dongle will work seamlessly across all of the abovementioned connections.

Officially the fastest 4G wireless technology in the country, Smart LTE enables its subscribers to enjoy wireless download speeds of up to 42Mbps with a 10GB monthly cap.

Smart's rollout of its 4G mobile broadband service complements the deployment of parent company, PLDT's Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH fixed broadband service which is capable of delivering speeds of up to 100Mbps.

"This combination of LTE and FTTH gives the PLDT group unmatched capabilities to serve the requirements of its customers for mobile and fixed broadband services," said PLDT and Smart President and CEO Napoleon L. Nazareno

"We will be starting off in several high traffic areas across Metro Manila including the Makati Central Business District," said PLDT-Smart Network and IP Systems Head Rolando G. Peña Smart. "We will increase that number before the year ends," he added.

Unlike regular broadband services, Smart LTE is capable of delivering wireless connectivity with unparalleled stability. Its high speed and low latency allows power users to send and receive heavy files at a fraction of the time it takes over 3G and run games smoothly comparable to, if not better than a fixed wired connection such as DSL or cable.

"Smart LTE, is the future of mobile broadband," said Lorenzana. "Now you can download movies in minutes, stream HD videos with no buffering, and play online games wirelessly with no lag," he said.

To put Smart LTE's abilities to the test, Smart and partner E-Games flew to Manila Korean gaming champion Kim «Classic» Hong Jae to square off with Filipino gaming champion Pablo 'Mski.Pobbes' Poblador in a round of Starcraft II, one of the most popular and best-selling games of all time, during the launch event.

A live online gaming competition followed shortly between teams situated in Manila and at the Jump Experience Center in Cebu.

Compared to LTE service fees around the world, Smart LTE is very competitive. In the United States, for example, a typical LTE connection costs around Php500 per gigabyte and elsewhere in Asia around Php700-Php1,000 for the same amount of data.

Smart offers LTE at only P450 per gigabyte beyond the 10GB allocation.
