STATELINE, Nev. — A four-year process came to a close on Thursday when the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s governing board approved Edgewood Companies’ Edgewood Tahoe Lodge and Golf Course realignment project.
The board passed three motions unanimously at the meeting to certify the project’s environmental impact statement, adopt a proposed height amendment for the 154-room lodge, and finally to approve the project.
If there are any naysayers in the community, they didn’t make an appearance on Thursday in the board room. Each of the 11 people who took the lectern during the public comment period spoke out in strong support for the project. Comments focused on the economic benefits of the lodge, additional construction jobs, the environmental initiatives of the project, and new public beach access.
"The recreational enchantments that are proposed within this project will benefit not only the visitors of Douglas County but the Douglas County residents. This project addresses some of the recreation deficiencies in Douglas County and the Lake Tahoe Basin," Douglas County’s Community Services Director Scott Morgan said.
Modification of the three holes and water quality improvement projects will begin next year, with construction on the lodge slated for 2014 according to Vice President of Real Estate Patrick Rhamey.
There’s more permitting to be done, but a proposal Edgewood submitted to the TRPA in 2008 is finally a permitted reality.
"I think what we have in front of us today is a really fine example of how the private sector and the public sector have worked together on putting this before you today," Edgewood Companies President and CEO Chuck Sharer said to the board.
