Kasson declares no need for EIS for old school – Post

KASSON — The city of Kasson completed an Environmental Assessment Worksheet last year as it prepared for the demolition of the old 1918 school. The document was sent to numerous state agencies and was made available for public comment.

Eight comments were received. Some comments said that the EAW should be updated to reflect the potential sale of the building to Sherman and Associates Inc.

But the city replied that "the fact that a developer is now interested in the building does not change the basic facts necessary to determine whether an Environmental Impact Statement is required for a proposed project. "

Lacking any comments regarding the environmental effects of the proposed demolition, the city council voted unanimously to declare there is no longer a need for an EIS. Read the full story in Wednesday’s print edition.
