Mercedes sees bumper sales

Mercedes Benz cars were in strong demand around the world last year.

A high number of the cars were sold in 2011, as sales rose 8%, thanks to heavy buying in China, Russia, and India.

Deliveries in the US climbed 13% to 245,231.

But the eurozone debt crisis hit Benz sales in Europe, which fell by 1% over the year.

Daimler has revealed the Smart car and luxury Maybach brands were included in the figures.

Daimler sold 1.36 million cars in 2011.
