Ford, Mercedes-Benz among big names confirmed for CES

The (CEA confirmed last week that will again be a keynote speaker at the , the biggest electronics event of the year.

As personal technology and automotive technology hurtle ever closer together, Mulally will join a lineup of executives from Xerox and to speak January 11, 2012, at an event which seems to be rivalling some of the world’s auto shows when it comes to automakers in attendance.

Last month, CEA announced that ‘s chief Dr. would be delivering a major speech, dropping his name in a list that includes Intel’s and Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer.

Representatives from several other automakers are expected to join key panel sessions on In-Vehicle Technology scheduled for January 10, and Audi, Chrysler, , GM, Kia, BMW, VW, Lexus, Land Rover and Mercedes-Benz are all expected to be on the show floor.

Last year, Ford used the CES to debut its new Focus Electric vehicle — a significant move apparently designed to send a clear message to the attendees at the , which opened just days later in Detroit.

This year, it’s planning to showcase the Evos, a concept vehicle already unveiled in Germany which will make its North American debut at the show, a move that has already attracted the ire of at least one auto blog in the wake of this week’s high-tech Los Angeles Auto Show.

Mercedes-Benz’s plans are far less clear — although if it’s planning anything remotely comparable to the show Mulally and Ford staged last year, auto shows around the world should be becoming increasingly worried.
