Trend for connected ‘smart’ homes continues to grow at 2012 consumer events

One of the fastest growing trends in home technology over the past few years is that of connected or ‘smart homes’  — houses that integrate a variety of electronic technologies in order to automate and increase control over all aspects of domestic systems — such as energy usage. This trend looks likely to continue to grow with the biggest shows, such as CES (January, (March, (April and (September, for example, featuring exhibition areas dedicated to smart or connected home technologies.

Consumer electronics expo International CES has been running since 1967 and is one of the biggest events of its kind in the world. Each year the event attracts over 126,000 visitors and some of the biggest names in and consumer tech and is frequently used as a launchpad for the latest gadgets. The continuing adaptation of the and the growing development of connected home appliances means that CES once again features a dedicated 'connected home’ product gallery. EHX (Electronic House Expo is an expo that caters for people interested in home health tech, , electronic security, digital media and custom electronics. It features booths from more than 200 exhibitors and offers hands-on sessions for those wanting to learn more about the electronics industry. In 2012 the New Opportunities Pavilion at EHX will be dedicated to numerous aspects of 'connected living’ including 'smart energy management’, 'home health tech’ and 'remote diagnostics’. Hannover Messe is the world’s biggest industrial fair and is home to over 4,500 of the latest industrial technology innovations spanning the fields of energy, mobility and 'green’ tech. The Hannover Messe fair itself is, this year, composed of seven different interrelated trade shows and this year is partnered with China under the title 'Green Intelligence‘. This year exhibitors at Hannover Messe will showcase potential future Smart Grid technology at the 'Energy’ section. The CEDIA (Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association Expo is one of the top expos for the residential custom installation industry. It showcases the latest innovations in home cinema, audio-video solutions, lighting control, multi-room audio, home-networking and smart home technologies for home and custom installations. Last year the event was attended by over 5,500 trade visitors, representing a 7 percent increase in visitors from 2010, this growth is expected to continue into 2012. 52nd IFA August 31- September 5   Messe Berlin GmbH exhibition center Berlin, Germany

IFA is one of the biggest consumer electronics show — in 2011 attracting 238,000 visitors and generating 3.7 billion euros of orders. The event is used as a launchpad for many new innovative consumer appliances from some of the biggest names in electronics. Tech Watch, one of the key events at IFA, will, in 2012, showcase the smart and connected home technologies of the future.
