Gateway public meetings set West transmission
Four public meetings are scheduled in Wyoming to collect public comments on a draft environmental impact statement (EIS for the proposed Gateway Project Transmission Line West in Wyoming and Idaho. The effort is spearheaded by EIS U.S. Bureau of Land Management.
Calendar of meetings:
– Monday, October 3, Kemmerer, in training South and Events Center Lincoln, Wyoming Highway 215 233.
– Tuesday, October 4, Rock Springs, BLM Building, 280 Highway 191 N.
– Wednesday, October 5, Ramos, Jeffrey Center, 315 E. Pine St.
– Thursday, October 6, Douglas, at the Clarion Inn & Suites Convention Center, 1450 Riverbend Drive.
The public has until October 28 to review and submit comments to the BLM. The comments will be incorporated into the final EIA will be used to make a final decision on the proposal.
The transmission line is proposed Gateway West jointly by Idaho Power and Rocky Mountains, and would lead to the construction of nearly 1,100 kilometers of high voltage transmission in southern Wyoming and southern Idaho. The companies have applied to the BLM and U.S. Forest Service (USFS for the right of way grants to build, operate and maintain the transmission lines proposed substation near Glenrock Windstar, Wyoming, to the proposed Hemingway substation near Melba, Idaho, about 20 miles southwest of Boise.
The construction of the Gateway West add 3,000 megawatts (MW of transmission capacity. The transmission line serving the needs of present and future customers, improve electric system reliability and transmission of electricity generated from new and existing resources, like wind.

To be most useful, public comments must be received by October 28.
