OTTAWA, /CNW/ – The Joint Panel reviewing the proposed
Marathon Platinum Group Metals and Copper Mine project is inviting the
public to comment on the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS. The EIS,
submitted to the Panel by the proponent, Stillwater Canada Inc., on
, provides an analysis of the potential environmental
effects of the proposed project.
This comment period gives interested parties, members of the public,
Aboriginal groups, and governments an opportunity to submit their views
in writing to the Panel on the sufficiency of the information presented
in the EIS as measured against the EIS Guidelines and on the technical
merit of the information presented. The EIS Guidelines provide
direction to the proponent and identify the information that is
required in the EIS.
Opportunities to present overall views on the project will be provided
at a future public hearing.
After reviewing the comments received, the Panel will determine whether
the EIS is sufficient or if the proponent must provide additional
information before the Panel schedules the public hearing.
The Panel must receive all comments on the EIS in writing . All comments received will be considered public and posted on the

The EIS, the EIS Guidelines, as well as further information on the
environmental assessment, are available on the Canadian Environmental
Assessment Registry at www.ceaa.gc.ca , registry number 10-05-54755. Print copies of the EIS have been made
available by the proponent in locations near the project area.

Stillwater Canada Inc. proposes to develop and operate the Marathon
Platinum Group Metals and Copper Mine Project north of Marathon,
Ontario. This project involves the construction and operation of an
open-pit mine and mill for the purpose of extracting and processing ore
containing copper and platinum group metals in addition to other
activities.
The Panel is an independent body, established by the federal Minister of
the Environment and the Ontario Minister of the Environment to assess
the environmental effects of the proposed project.
