Samsung Galaxy S2, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Nexus and Tablets in several sizes have helped Korean giant post record Q4 profit
Samsung Electronics has reported record quarter 4 profit in a press event in Korea. Boosted by the best-ever sales of high-end smartphones and one-off gains, the world's key technology maker has reaped huge profits in the last quarter. The Galaxy S Android phone manufacturer made 5.2 trillion won ($4.5 billion in quarterly operating profit. It is a bigger than the consensus forecast of 4.7 trillion won by Thomson Reuters and other analysts.
Of course, the South Korean technology maker well deserves what it has gained. The company has been a leading actor in tech world for the last several years. Lots of high-end Android smartphones, tablets, well-appreciated OLED displays and memory chips have helped the company make huge quarterly profit. Indeed, the Q4 results simply expose Samsung's supremacy over its leading competitors like HTC, RIM, Nokia and others.
The Q4 results go beyond Samsung's previous record profit of 5.0 trillion won, which the company made in the second quarter of 2010. Moreover, the Q4 profit is 20 percent better than the preceding quarter last year. It clearly indicates the extent of penetration Samsung has made in global tech market in last several months. Certainly, Samsung will be going up further in its profit performance.
According to Song Jong-ho, analysts at Daewoo Securities, Samsung's smartphone sales are expected to rise further, helping the company make more profits. "Samsung has traditionally seen its first-quarter profit drop from the fourth quarter, but profit will hold up well, reaching between 4.5 trillion won and 5. 0 trillion won, with smartphone sales expected to rise further," Jong-ho adds.
Role of smartphones and tablets
Samsung could break the record in profits thanks to its recent surge in smartphone and tablet business. Competing with Apple head to head, Samsung has rolled out lots of fresh products like Galaxy S, Galaxy Tab, Galaxy Note and innumerable others. Samsung eventually became the world leader in producing Android-based products. Arguably, it is the largest Android hardware manufacturer today.
Samsung seriously got into smartphone and tablet markets in 2010 only. To fight with iPhone, Samsung launched its Galaxy S series and it replied Apple iPad tablet with Galaxy Tab. Anyway, soon after releases, Samsung's smartphones and tablets could skyrocket in sales. On its way, the company took over Apple to become the largest smartphone vendor in the world in 2011.
Future of Samsung
According to analysts, Samsung is expected to sell as many as 170 million smartphones in 2012. BNP Paribas and Korea Investment Securities have made the prediction. It is hoped the company could sell more products from its 95 million last year. Samsung is also working to give emphasis for its own Bada OS along with the Android artillery.
Samsung is also known for peculiar innovations. Surely, the Korean firm will be diversifying its products list with many items in future. As of now, it has Galaxy Note, a 5.3-inch "phablet," 7-inch Galaxy Tab Plus, 8.9-inch Galaxy Tab and others. Along with its typical 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab, it has now tablets under all screen sizes. It will be the kind of innovation Samsung may continue to establish its domination in global mobile market.
So Samsung is set to advance up its presence in display and memory card business too. After the much appreciated Super AMOLED displays, it is now working on to realize flexible and transparent displays for tablets. The less power consuming displays are expected to change the way we have been using smartphones and other devices. Of course, we can expect many more brilliant product experiments from Samsung in future.
What others say?
Needless to mention, Samsung could make record quarter results because it has made use of Google Android platform far intelligently. The open source OS has a huge place in the growth of Samsung as a dominant tech company. Let us see what IBN Live says of Samsung's supremacy in tech world. The company has been building on its domination with more sleek and incredible products and technologies, read on.
"The South Korean firm, which surged past Apple as the world's top smartphone maker in the third quarter, is quickly building on its supremacy with sleek designs and a rich product line-up, while the latest models from the likes of HTC, Nokia and BlackBerry maker Research in Motion struggle to interest consumers.
